Well today instead of writing about baseball, I will put a project from Gileskirk that I have almost finished. Its a poem about day 1 of Iwo Jima. *D-day means day of invasion. Iwo Jima Day 1 On February 18th the Marines sat on deck Cleaning their guns, while looking at Iwo‘s Spec Wondering if they would die first D-day* Or if they would be the first to slay The Japs in their caves listened all day As the navy bombarded from the Bay They had written home their letters Filling it with money for the family’s debtors The Japs knew their mission They needed no permission To kill ten marines before they were slain That was what Kuribayashi had said to obtain The Marines watched the Island And At Suribachi’s highland The champions finished up their poker The losers were thought as Mediocre On February 19th all the Marines Got unto Their Amphibious machines They waded ashore but to their surprise Their was not a single shot through their eyes They unloaded the supplies Without hearing any cries Then when the beach was totally covered Jap Machine guns started to sputter Marines started dying While bullets were flying They shot with their mortars Showing no quarters The Marines inched along All through the dead throng Of Brave Marines who died With all of their pride The Screams of the wounded rang through the air Making every soldier Aware Of what would happen should he be next To have the bullet rip through his neck The ocean was full of marine spilt blood While soldiers advanced through the mud All of the Japs fought for honor Afraid of shame and dishonor The Marines fought all day But to their dismay 2500 were killed or were wounded But still 40,000 the beachhead defended The Marines fought on Till all Japs were gone And won ww2’s most bloody endeavor But the battle would leave a scar for ever |
